Fact-Checking Policy

Trace important facts back to their evidence.

What we focus on checking, and how we handle sources, conditions, check dates and changes in information.

Management and editorialFX Minutes Editorial Team

We focus on information that affects decisions.

Errors or omitted conditions in financial systems, regulation, broker legal entities, licences or registrations, leverage, margin, trading conditions, platform specifications, trading hours, costs and numerical information can readily affect readers’ decisions.

We check not only readability, but also evidence, the region concerned, applicable conditions and the point in time at which information was checked.

Sources have an order of priority.

  1. 1
Regulators, government agencies and public information

Check rules, registrations, warnings and explanations for investors.

  2. 2
    Official documentation and legal documents

Check platform specifications, contracting entities, conditions and disclosures.

  3. 3
    Supplementary sources

They may help explain the background, but are not the sole evidence for important claims.

Record what was checked, against what and when.

Claim Ledger
Record claims requiring verification and their status.
Evidence Mapping
Record the relationship between claims and the sources supporting them.
Source Tier
Distinguish how close a source is to primary information and the role it serves.
Checked Date
Record the date information was checked.
CONTEXT_DEPENDENT / TIME_SENSITIVE
Treat information that changes with conditions or time separately from fixed facts.

Check the conditions before saying something always applies.

We do not state as universal facts information whose outcome varies by broker, country of residence, account type, product, time or regulation. We retain context such as ‘conditions may differ’ or ‘check the latest official information’ where it is needed.

Do not judge regulation or safety by a brand name alone.

In broker articles, we distinguish the brand from the contracting legal entity and check jurisdiction, regulator, registration and licence at entity level. We do not treat an overseas licence as Japanese registration.

Where we cannot establish a connection between an old warning and the entity currently displayed, we do not infer one. We refer the matter for compliance review and human review.

Check when information changes, not only at publication.

When changes to sources, regulation, platform specifications or broker conditions are identified, we recheck the relevant content. We change update and last-checked dates when the content has actually been reviewed.
